Nail-Venturous Lacquer Teal Me a Story!

Finally getting around to writing about this polish that was custom made for me by Amy of Nail-Venturous Lacquers!  It is hands down, my favorite of all my indies!

Love a bottle of NVL polish, it is just so pretty!  I have so many untrieds, but I think this will be back on my fingers sooner rather than later.  The formula is amazing!  A jellyish white base with teal and turquoise glitters, and some diamond shaped!  Then there is the pop of red!  I love red pops in almost any color scheme, but this is a fave combination!  They are red shreds and look awesome!

First time I wore this color, I used a sinful colors white as undies.  I liked it much better the second time around with just the polish,no undies at all.  Gave a much squishier look, which I love!  This polish applied so easily for me.  The mix of glitter was perfect and I had no trouble getting at least one diamond on every nail except my pinky.  I have seriously tiny pinky nails, not sure if you can tell from the pics, but literally, one swipe of a brush goes outside the lines, so I am careful to keep it just on the nail and thus, I am not as picky about how much glitter gets on that one.  You can see that I got everything but the biggies though, and that is something special.  Wear was awesome.  Not a chip in sight when I removed it and it really did remove easily for me.  Though, I don't have the trouble a lot of people have with glitter removal, it is a bit more time consuming than regular polish.  I think what really helps is that my glitter manis are generally done over a full gelish mani and the top it off I have on top of that is so smooth that the glitter doesn't really grip in and just kinda floats over the top.  I recommend this to everyone!

I purchased 2 bottles of this.  One for myself, and one for a lucky reader, when I do my next giveaway.  Not sure when it will be yet.  Been pretty unmotivated lately.  It's just not a great time of year for me, I guess.  Lots of stuff I want to do, but just unable to get up the ambition to do it, and it wears on me.

So stay tuned for the next giveaway, and my next blog post will hopefully be soon!  I need to take pics of my current mani which I love.  I am wearing a Whimsical by Pam polish, Kismet's Pajamas.  It is so pretty.  Unfortunately I am having some lifting of my clear gelish mani on my left thumb and I JUST applied it tonight.  I am thinking I didn't cap the free edge enough on that finger, so thinking I will redo my thumb as I don't want to top it off over KP and have to remove the entire thing to change my top polish.

Just a note, the pics in this particular blog entry were taken with a different camera, and I am not that happy with them.  It is a very finicky camera when it comes to light levels, and doesn't have enough manual settings for me to really get it to look completely accurate ....but it's small and convenient and what I had handy that day...

Blog Nails! Gelish Sheek White with Bundle Monster Stamp

Sorry I have been MIA for so long.  Haven't felt that great.  Been busy.  The usual.
So, my new mani is my blog mani.  I tried to kinda replicate my background on my nail.  For this I did a Gelish Mani with Sheek White, and then stamped with a bm image plate and Konad special black polish.  Everything in this mani applied super smoothly.  Unfortunately, my hands and cuticle are a mess, not so smooth.  I picked up some Sally Hansen Apricot Cuticle Massage Cream, which I love.  Awesome feeling stuff, but I used it for two days and somehow lost it.  These pics are pre cuticle cream.

Well, time to make dinner.  So..this is a short blog post.  I do highly recommend all the products I used here.  What is your favorite Gelish color to use as a base for other manis?

Oceanic Fish Egg Mani. Anyone for caviar?

See that up there??  Fish Egg, not technically caviar, so no c&d letters please lol.
I tried a fish egg mani the other day, LOVED it .....for five minutes.
I really wanted to keep this on, but it didn't seem very sturdy.  I put top coat on top of my nails on my left hand, and it made it look horrible. It really is a look that needs to not have anything added to the top, in my opinion.

You can see that it didn't come out perfectly in these close up macro shots, but in real life, the naked eye did not really detect the missing beads, or the fact that some were on top of the cuticle and outside of the nail bed.
The process I used was painting half my nail one blue color and the other half another.  I did half a nail at a time and all ten nails were done like this.  While the paint was just tacky, not wet, not dry, I dipped my fingers into the beads, which I poured into a glitter cap. They stuck on right away, but if I tried to manipulate it in any way they would fall of in bunches.  I am not sure if my polish was too wet still or what, but I had a problem getting a sharp line between colors like I wanted because of this.
Once I got to the tenth nail, I mostly had nicely adhered beads and could move on to polishing the other half of my nail and dipping into the other blue color.  I used Recollections beads from Michaels. The second half seemed to adhere better than the first, and I put that down to waiting a tiny bit longer before dipping.
I tried to clean up as best I could, but found that big patches of beads would be lost in the process.  I would then take a drop of Poshe top coat and drip it into the bare spot.  Dip in beads again and wait.  I gave up on perfecting it, and just went with what my eye decided was good enough.  I think the look was very nice.  I would definitely wear this for a night out if I ever had one, and would be a bit more careful.  I found though that the polish that was holding on the beads took a loooong time to dry.  When I decided that I would have to take it off because I wasn't completely happy with it, all I had to do on a few nails was push from the cuticle up using the pad of my finger and it would all come off, polish, beads and all...the polish was still wet.  So that is something to think about.  Nail glue would probably work better, but I didn't want to deal with it, and just gave up.
After I gave up, I decided on a new Indie Mani.  I used 3 coats Cha Cha Twist from All That Glitters.  I got pretty much full coverage out of it.  A nice mix of glitter came up on the brush and I used the dabble method.  I highly recommend this polish.  It dried quickly despite the thickish coats, and so far it is staying on really well.  It is beautiful.  The sparkle and shine, awe inspiring.  I made a mess since it was really late when I did this, and I didn't bother with cleanup before taking pics...but you can still see how pretty a color this is.

You can order Cha Cha Twist from this listing in the All That Glitters Etsy Shop!  I encourage you to do so, as this is such a pretty polish!  Next time I think I will give it undies ...or maybe not, I really love it as a full coverage polish and you can certainly do this in 3 coats if you use the dabble method!

"And the only reason for being a bee that I know of is making honey." Humble Bee Nail-Venturous Swatches and Review!

The first picture was taken at a live hive that was enclosed in glass.  So cool to watch the busy bees!
Now on to the mani.  I used my gelish foundation, then used ibd Just Gel in Solar Rays for the undies.  Every other nail was then topped with Wet n Wild black polish.  Finally, I added it...the very amazing Humble Bee by Nail-Venturous Lacquer!
So, this polish went on great with normal technique.  I didn't have any dragging, pooling, or anything of the sort.  It really just went where I wanted it and stayed there.  I tried the dabble method where you kind of pounce glitters on to fill in the nail on a few nails, and I have to say, that is going to be a great method for the chunkier glitters.  This particular one didn't need it, but I wanted to try.
.
Above you see a swatch wheel shot of humble bee with no undies.  As you can see it is a yellow and black small glitter with small black hexes scattered about.  Really cool polish!
I only have 1 coat of humble bee on in these pics.  The above is with Gelous and Seche top coats, but I decided to paint some stripes on the yellow nails and add matte magic by China Glaze to mattify the entire mani.  Look at how short my poor nails are.  So depressing.
Above is the matte version with crappy stripes painted on.  I am not happy with my stripes, but I do like it matte.  Much better in real life.

Bottom Line:  If you can, buy this polish.  It is really different. It's bright and awesome.  Application is a dream, I am sure removal will be similar to other glitters.

You can find humble bee in the NailVenturous Etsy Shop. The shop is currently in vacation mode, and not sure when a restock will be, but this is a definite must have, so keep your eyes peeled!

All That Glitters Wheel Swatches Bottle Spam and More

Well, my usb ports on my laptop are messing up and not recognizing my card reader again, so my two latest mani pics aren't available until I use my other computer to get them on here.  Until then, some swatches on the nail wheel will have to do.  Right now I am wearing Nail-Venturous Robin Laid an Egg with my thumb water marbled with Zoya Bevin, a generic white, and a pink Julep that I don't recall.  My thumb was the only one that came out halfway ok and even that isn't the way I wanted.  Must have more water marble practice!

I got my All That Glitters nail polishes a while ago.  I haven't had the chance to actually wear any of them yet, but I think Cha Cha Twist is my next mani. I really love it in bottle and on the nail wheel.  It's gorgeous. So, until then, and until I can get my mani pics up, here are my All That Glitters bottles and swatches!

Left to right, Valentine Massacre, Cha Cha Twist, and Spotty Dottie Rosie.  For some reason Valentine Massacre photographs much more orange than it looks in real life.

Backs of the bottles. Aren't they awesome??  Look at the reflections on the table.  So cool!

Now for the one by one color pics.  First up is Valentine Massacre.

You can see that on the swatch wheel there is more of a red tone.  It's a beautiful mix of black and red hexes, tiny red glitters, and a red tinted base.  I can't wait to try this one either!

Next, ChaCha Twist:
What a beautiful polish!  A transparent blue base, with dark blue hexes, aqua hexes, red and black hexes, silver bar glitter, and big red squares!  I just love this polish!

Finally we have Spotty Dottie Rosie:

Spotty Dottie Rosie is a clear base with multiple sizes of red hexes and red bar glitters.  I love it.  I think I am going to use this in conjunction with Sweet Fairy Boutique's Sticks and Stones.  I think one coat of this to 2 coats of Sticks and Stones will make an awesome look.  I love black and white with a punch of red in all sorts of ways, as home decor, in fashion, in photographs, and I am sure I will love it in a mani.  So stay tuned for that!

All That Glitters Polishes can be purchased at the All That Glitters Etsy Shop.  All of the colors you see above are in stock for purchase right now!

And now for a gripe.  All my nails are super short again. They just keep tearing.  It doesn't matter what I use.  For a while my gel manis were keeping them from breaking, but they reach a certain length and even that doesn't protect them enough.  I can go an hour with naked nails and end up with nothing but nubbins.  I need to either give up on ever having long nails, or find something else. I am seriously contemplating getting gels with tips so that I have more length, but I hesitate because I don't want to ruin my nails further than they already get naturally.  What have your experiences been?  What products do you use that work for weak super flexible paper thin nails? Comment please and help a girl out. This really stinks.  My nails are sooo short right now, and they grow so slowly.

Burst of Blue, Perfect for me, and probably for you!

Well, this polish definitely fulfilled my need for a blue from Nail-Venturous!  I am sooo pleased with this polish.  The color is perfect!  It kind of reminds me of one of those enamel coated speckled blue cooking pans!  LOVE!  This mani as achieved by first, an Up in the Blue Gelish mani, then 2 coats of a no named LA Colors Blue that was a PERFECT match for it, and then I only needed ONE coat of Burst of Blue to have it looking amazing!

This is a closely cropped pic of it on one of my nails.  I can't get over the way it just made the blue pop.  I topped with 2 coats Gelous and 1 coat Seche Vite, but probably could have gotten away with just 1 coat of Gelous.  Habit, I suppose!
Such a pretty blue!  Difficult to describe.  It is lighter than cobalt, darker than Robin's egg, I don't know what to call it...so I will call it MY perfect blue! It's a matte black and blue glitter with white hexes and white and holo bar glitters.  I love this mixture.  There also is some fine bar black glitter as well.
This swatch pic shows 2 coats Burst of Blue with no base.  I think it could easily go on it's own in 3 coats!
Beautiful in the bottle, beautiful on the nail.  Seems to be a running theme with Nail-Venturous Lacquers!
Perfection!

Application on this polish was super easy.  There was a nice concentration of glitter in every stroke.  I didn't have to dig for big glitters, I didn't have to flip it upside down between nails, or even between coats.  It just is a great formula.  Went on smooth, glitter behaved really well, no peaks and valleys.  I wore it for 3 days, and I didn't have any chips, just some shrink back from the seche vite.  Why must it shrink??

I highly recommend this polish if you like blue, matte glitter, and awesome application!

Amy's NailVenturous nail polishes can be purchased in her Etsy Shop!  You can also pick up some of her shades at Ninja Polish.

"The Toxic Avenger: Finally... my search is over. Ooohhh... he looks like a big teddy bear, I love him already." Dollish Polish Toxic Avenger Review and OPI GelColor A Grape Fit

I was lucky enough to win a mini of the original Toxic Avenger on the Dollish Polish Facebook page, and I now understand why everyone was so upset to see that this is no longer available.  It is just awesome!!!  This isn't a duochrome, it's a multichrome.  I looked at it in low light, I looked at it in direct light, artificial light, filtered light.  It flashes to so many different colors!  My fave was the red I saw when in a room with the sun beating through the white mini blinds.  It was sooo pretty!  Anyway, here is the bottle.  How I wish it were full size!

So, this mani, unlike my last few, is done over a colored gel manicure.  I used gelish foundation, structure, 2 coats of color, and then top it off.  I decided that I would use my new OPI GelColor in A Grape Fit.  I think it will look great with quite a few of the polishes I plan to wear soon layered over the top of it.  So, here is the mani, before it fell in nuclear waste and turned into the....TOXIC AVENGGGGERRRRRRR!

And look at that...still managed to break some nails.   Even with all that added strength.  Wow...my journey to long nails is 1 step forward 8000 steps back.

It was just a plain purple mani, until one day...it met with that nuclear waste vat, and became the mutant below..  The Toxic Avenger Mani!

This polish was very hard to photograph.  In the above photo you can clearly see the holo-y goodness, but not the colorshift-you can also see I hadn't done clean-up, shhhh!
In this pic you can see the bits of copper and some green as well as the purple.  But, still, it doesn't do this polish justice AT ALLLLL!
Above, you see the shift, but it's blurry because only one nail showed the shift in the pic and I cropped it ....but you can also see the holo, so I hope that gives some idea.
The Spectraflair pigment in this polish is amazing.  Look at it in indirect lighting.  Facing almost completely away from the window you can still see the reflection!

This one shows some color change with one finger held in the shadow of the other.  You can see the greeny copper in index finger, and more of the purple in the middle finger.  Unfortunately I couldn't capture the red.  I think because of the purple base it was on, the red stood out for me more.  Who knows, it is just gorgeous that is all I know!

Application was super easy.  The photos are with no cleanup and I did not take my time, so you can see how well it really did apply.  If the new formulation Dolly is working on is anything at all like this polish, well, make sure you don't buy a mini!  Buy FULL SIZE!!

Dolly's Etsy shop is closed right now, but you can check it for updates, here's the link: Dollish Polish Etsy Shop

Before I end this post, let me remind you of the 100 blog follower giveaway.  We are getting closer!  25 more to go!  I will be taking pics of the prize soon here.  Waiting on one more polish to arrive that will be included and then, you will see what you might win!  I know you won't be disappointed!
